    BRS Welcomes Denver Transit Operators

DENVER, COLORADO — On March 29, 2017, Maintenance of Way and Dispatching Department employees of Denver Transit Operators (DTO) voted, by an overwhelming majority, to join the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS). This vote adds 53 members and includes Communication Technicians, Dispatchers, Facility Maintainers, Operations Control Coordinators, Signal Maintainers, Track Inspectors, Track Maintainers, and Traction Power Technicians.

BRS President W. Dan Pickett stated, “We are proud to represent our new DTO members. We will start working right away on an agreement that addresses many of the issues that we learned of through our organizing meetings. A new Local will be chartered for the DTO members. After the Local gets up and running, the members will choose to form their own General Committee or join an existing General Committee.”

BRS Vice President Kelly Haley and Grand Lodge Representative Tim Tarrant led the organizing campaign following an email from a DTO Signal Maintainer in August of last year. Haley stated, “We could not be more pleased that the DTO group decided that the BRS was a good fit for the labor force on this property.”

Grand Lodge Representative Tim Tarrant stated, “We had our first face-to-face meeting with the DTO members in January and the representation election in March; it only shows you what can be accomplished in a short time when the members are motivated.”

DTO is a private company with a 29-year contract to operate and maintain the new commuter rail system (A, B, and G lines) in and around Denver, Colorado, for Colorado’s Regional Transportation District.
